World´s third largest telco selects ZTE to provide DSL equipment to Telefonica Brazil

ZTE Corporation (Shenzhen: 000063, Hong Kong: 0763), China´s largest listed telecommunications manufacturer and leading wireless solutions provider, has signed a contract with Telefonica, the world´s third largest operator and the largest fixed line operator in Latin-America, to provide DSL CPE to Telefonica Brazil.

The contract win accounts for approximately 50% of the contracts awarded by Telefonica Brazil, and follows the success of DSL modem in Telefonica Peru and Telefonica Argentina earlier this year, as well as recent strategic partnerships with Greece Telecom, Portugal Telecom and France Telecom.

The announcement by Telefonica of the selection of ZTE follows extensive cooperation between the companies in multiple product areas since early 2004."The contract win is underpinned by our commitment in terms of prompt responses, customised solutions and quality yet cost-effective products. We expect to further expand our cooperation with Telefonica."said Mr Zhu Dongtang, broadband access product manager at ZTE.

"This deal with the region´s largest fixed line operator caps a series of breakthroughs in the South American marketplace and which, together with partnerships with world-class telecoms operators around the globe, is further proof of ZTE´s competencies and competitiveness in the international DSL arena," added Mr Zhu.  "We have been consistently focusing on quality and service, and will further improve our technical support and service capabilities in broadband areas."

To date, ZTE has deployed over 12 million DSL products in more than 40 countries including Romania, Greece, Egypt, India and Pakistan. In March this year, Gartner reported ZTE as one of the top three DSL providers in the world, and at the 2004 Olympics ZTE´s DSL successfully provided athletes, referees, journalists and spectators from all over the world with quality broadband services in 16 venues and news centres.
