- ZTE and China Telecom Shanghai Branch have launched a high-end PON computing-network gateway, revolutionizing smart campuses by seamlessly integrating an all-optical foundation, multi-dimensional security, and powerful edge AI computing
- This innovative solution, already successfully deployed in Shanghai, delivers ultra-fast connectivity, enhanced security through unified video and AI analytics, and significant operational cost reductions for enterprises, paving the way for advanced smart building clusters
Shanghai, China, 26 June 2025 - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a global leading provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions, today announced its collaboration with China Telecom Shanghai Branch to officially launch the high-end PON computing-network gateway.
This innovative product has already been successfully commercialized in a high-tech park in Shanghai, becoming a benchmark product for computing-network convergence within the "Smart Cloud Escort" system. It establishes a robust all-optical PON network as its foundation, deeply integrating intelligent, multi-dimensional security capabilities with flexible edge AI computing to create a high-performance, highly secure, and intelligent next-generation all-optical network system for campuses and enterprise users.
This solution leverages advanced PON technologies to deliver fiber connectivity directly to every building and office within a campus, providing lossless, cost-effective gigabit and 10-gigabit access. A single gateway supports 32 secondary gateways, accommodating large-scale access needs. Its Power over Fiber (PoF) capability simplifies the deployment of Access Points (APs) and cameras, significantly reducing costs.
Built upon this all-optical foundation, a powerful multi-dimensional security system has been established. It deeply integrates with the "E-Surfing Security Brain", offering network security protection such as IPS and application-level ACLs. The solution innovatively achieves "three-network convergence for integrated video collection", unifying the management of a campus's existing distributed video protection systems.
It supports local storage (data remains within the campus) and incorporates AI algorithms such as regional intrusion detection and risk identification for timely risk alerting. Security capabilities are also extended to access control, OA, and other business systems, forming a unified protection network.
Furthermore, the solution integrates efficient computing power. Its built-in 130 TOPS AI computing pool can be scheduled on demand to process data streams, such as video and energy consumption carried by the all-optical network in real time, supporting a wide range of smart applications. It also adapts to the innovative Xlink protocol, enabling the interoperation and control of a massive number of heterogeneous devices such as cameras, sensors, etc., which significantly accelerates the deployment of ecological applications.
The implementation in the Shanghai park has yielded remarkable results. The all-optical base has provided a high-speed and stable network environment for enterprises, ensuring "0" disconnections for various services. The multi-dimensional security system, through unified video collection, local storage, and AI analysis, has significantly enhanced the overall security level and management efficiency of the park, improving alert response times by over 50%. The integrated computing power has driven an intelligent energy management system, optimizing the operation of facilities like lighting and air conditioning, helping enterprises in the park reduce operating costs by an average of approximately 40%. Currently, the park is further enhancing its security and smart service applications based on this platform.
ZTE and China Telecom Shanghai Branch are accelerating the promotion of this solution. Enterprise users can now subscribe to the "Business and Enterprise All-Optical Network (Premium Edition)" service , which includes a gateway, a secondary gateway, a computing card, an 8TB hard drive, an 10-gigabit network card, among other components.
Moving forward, this high-end PON computing-network gateway, with its all-optical foundation and deep integration of security and computing, will continue to empower smart campus construction and further expand into smart building clusters and critical urban nodes, providing a solid cloud-edge collaborative foundation for a wider range of intelligent scenarios.
