12 September 2011, Shenzhen, ChinaZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has secured a 16.3 per cent market share in China's service provider switching and routing (SPSR) market during the period of 2Q10-1Q11, according to data published by technology research organization Ovum. ZTE is now ranked third in China’s SPSR market.

The Ovum report, “Market Share Alert: 1Q11 SP Switching and Routing”, states that annualized spending on SPSR rose to $13.60 billion. It gained 2 per cent from the previous quarter and was up 16 per cent from the previous corresponding period. Ovum’s report also ranked ZTE as the number two company in the global SPSR’s IP/Ethernet product segment through to the first quarter of 2011.

ZTE has recently increased its investment in the high-end datacom field with much success. The company has gained ground in the high-end market via its promotional efforts of T8000/M6000 products based on the T8000 platform. With its T8000/M6000 products, ZTE aims to change the datacom product market. The successful strategy employed by ZTE in the datacom market was duplicated from parts of its strategies in the wireless, optical network and FTTx markets. ZTE plans to expand from China into other developing countries, then to countries in Europe and the Americas.

The successful application of T8000/M6000 in China has supported development elsewhere. In the Middle Eastern and African (MEA) SPSR market, ZTE was ranked fourth in the 12 months ended March 31, 2011, with a market share of 8.1 per cent.

ZTE witnessed its fastest growth in the Asia-Pacific area. By the end of the first half of 2011, ZTE shipped several thousand T8000/M6000 units based on the T8000 platform. Those units are in use by operators in China, such as China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, and by other operators across Asia-Pacific, Southeast Asia and the MEA.

ZTE’s progress in high-end datacom greatly improves its competitiveness in the 100G and bearer network fields. With its ZXR10 T8000/M6000, ZTE became the first vendor in the industry to pass 100G tests conducted by the independent European Advanced Networking Test Centerin June 2011, establishing it as a leader in the field.
