ZTE’s 5G Smart High-Speed Railway Vehicle-to-Ground Communication Recognized as Best Technology Innovation Application Case

22 October 2021, Shenzhen, China - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the mobile internet, together with Guangzhou Railway Technology Development Co., Ltd. and China Mobile IoT, has been awarded Best Technology Innovation Application Case at the PT/EXPO China 2021 for 5G Smart HSR Vehicle-to-Ground Communication.

The development of digital economy and the construction of a new smart city need the support of ICTs. The activity of collecting cases for ICT China 2021 is aimed at finding excellent industrial solutions and technical innovation cases in China for in-depth ICT applications in cities and industries, to facilitate digital transformation of the society. 

In the 5G+ intelligent transportation field, high-speed railway is an important basic scenario for 5G deployment. In order to cope with the severe challenges such as large penetration loss of train coverage, Doppler frequency shift and frequent service switching, China Mobile IoT and Guangzhou Railway Technology Development have launched the intelligent high-speed railway vehicle-to-ground communication solution. 

Based on the industry dedicated i5GC of ZTE, the high-speed railway independent private 5G network is deployed to interconnect with the China Mobile IoT management platform, so as to control and manage the vehicle-mounted network. The private 5G network satisfies the requirements of ToB terminals for large bandwidth and low latency in the high-speed railway. Through the microcells, it effectively lowers the requirement of the high-speed railway for coverage of base stations. By locally deploying vehicle-mounted UPF + CDN, the high-speed railway private 5G network interconnects with the ToC 5GC, thus realizing local offloading of entertainment and other popular applications while improving the network service perception. 

This project applies 5G, big data, AI, and other new technologies to the railway industry. By reconstructing 5G vehicle-mounted high-speed railway equipment, customers enjoy high-quality 5G technologies and various applications in high-speed railway vehicles , and high-speed railway operation becomes more efficient and intelligent. Moving forward, Guangzhou Railway Technology Development, China Mobile IoT, and ZTE will continue to work closely to explore innovative 5G applications and accelerate the digital transformation in railway field.
