10 October 2020, Shenzhen, China - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, together with Informa Tech and leading analyst firm Omdia, has a held global online webinar on "MEC Technology Innovation and Multi-Field Applications".

Julian Watson, Principal Analyst, IoT at Omdia , and Riki Yang, Technical Director of Cloud & Core Network Products, ZTE Corporation, have conducted an in-depth discussion on the industry landscape and prospect of MEC. In addition, Riki Yang has introduced ZTE's solution innovations and practices in MEC.

In the keynote speech, Julian Watson, pointed out that, more than two thirds of enterprises with IoT deployments have treated 5G and edge computing as their strategic priorities, according to Omdia's 2019 enterprise IoT survey.

Riki Yang explained that MEC plays a role of a hub connecting telecoms operators and Internet services. MEC should be able to adapt to complex environments, facilitate installation and O&M, reduce latency, save transmission, and better support vertical industries and Internet services.

Furthermore, MEC will also break the closed telecoms network architecture and provide telecoms capability APIs (such as TCPO, LBS and QoS) for third parties, so as to increase network profit and better support services.

"In the Internet field, MEC can simultaneously provide VMs, containers and bare metal resources. Moreover, it can introduce cloud native technologies into existing NFV and third-party applications. Existing Internet applications can be seamlessly migrated to MEC edge cloud, which extends public cloud services, such as cloud gaming and AR/RV, to the operators' MEC to better meet ultimate service experience requirements of ultra-low latency and ultra-large bandwidth,” said Riki Yang. “Based on the operators' 5G slicing technology, MEC provides high-quality private network assurance for industry users, thus building a dedicated industry network.”

To date, ZTE has developed more than 500 industry customers to build a win-win MEC ecosystem, in cooperation with major global operators in many fields, including industrial control, Internet of Vehicles, smart finance, smart agriculture, smart power, smart sports and entertainment, smart security, and smart health care, so as to accelerate digital transformation of various industries.
