Lightweight edge cloud by mixed deployment of container and virtual machine introduces rich cloud native technology stack to assist ICT edge application for faster distribution, deployment, resiliency and cross-cloud migration. It provides a centralized API distribution center, configuration center, backup center, security center, and fault management center to provide consistent infrastructure management services and Zero Touch experience for massive edge clouds.
In order to adapt to the various deployment scenarios of edge computing, the solution provides multiple deployment modes:
1) Independent bare-metal container cluster, deploying Kubernetes cluster directly through bare metal and supporting multiple runtimes, providing application container, security container (KataContainer) and virtual machine container (Kubevirt) service, and unifying the cloud native technology stack to further reduce resource overhead.
2) Remote deployment, through the calculation node far-reaching and network optimization, to meet the deployment requirements of super-edge nodes, and further reduce the control node overhead.
3) Lightweight deployment, through component tailoring and capacity optimization, the control node overhead is reduced by more than 50%, and components can be customized and expanded with capacity.
The solution shares as much as possible the mature resource management system in the NFV field, unified computing (CPU, GPU, FPGA), unified network (Neutron, SDN, SmartNIC), unified storage (Cinder, Ceph), unified security (vFW, Keystone), unified high availability (backup, disaster recovery), further improve resource utilization efficiency, reduce system integration complexity.
