China Mobile and ZTE achieve industry's first digital twin-based precise network planning for high-speed rail

Shenzhen, China, 10 October 2023 - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a global leading provider of information and communication technology solutions, in partnership with China Mobile's Tianjin Branch, has completed industry's first digital twin-based precise network planning for high-speed rail.

 

The solution supports more accurate visual network planning through higher precision twinning modeling, and uses twin simulation optimization, greatly reducing repetitive site surveys in the engineering optimization phase. This is an innovative exploration for 6G network planning.

 

In contrast to the traditional high-speed railway network planning solution, which often suffers from issues such as insufficient precision, poor perception, repeated optimization, and low efficiency, the innovative solution  has revolutionized the construction and optimization of the 5G 700M private network for high-speed railways.

 

The solution integrates various wireless network digital twin functions into micro services, each with specialized capabilities. The precision network planning for high-speed railways revolves around two primary twin models: site twinning and channel twinning. Site twinning engages micro services like data collection and model generation to ensure the creation of a high-quality network. Channel twinning, on the other hand, utilizes micro services encompassing model generation, simulation, visualization, and strategy optimization, enabling more accurate and efficient network planning.

 

The verification results reflect the success of the innovative solution across three crucial dimensions:

 

Precise Parameter Identification for Base Station Antennas: ZTE conducted precise parameter identification tests on 152 out of 159 antennas at 26 sites, achieving an impressive 96% effectiveness. Errors in azimuth angle were within ±3°, and downtilt angle errors were within ±1°.

 

Wireless Channel Twinning for High-Speed Railway Precision Planning: The solution resulted in a mean error of just 1 dB in RSRP, with an RMSE of 4 dB.

 

Coverage Optimization Gain: ZTE observed significant improvements in coverage optimization. The average RSRP increased by 3 dB, the average SINR increased by 1 dB, and there was a remarkable 15% increase in the data rate.
