26 February 2014, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, in association with German mobile operator E-Plus and Hi-Tech company CloudStreet, has developed a cost-efficient technology to transmit high quality HD video over TD-LTE wireless networks.

E-Plus and ZTE have already cooperated to build a high performance UMTS and LTE FDD network in Germany. Using the CloudStreet capacity reservation system, the companies plan live video transmission over the E-Plus 3.5G TD-LTE network extension.

Live video or remote camera feeds are usually limited by the location of the camera. The CloudStreet model makes a capacity reservation on the network to carry high bit-rate applications like video transmissions. Mobile operators can adopt this model to serve new customer segments such as broadcasters, enabling them to cost-effectively transmit live video material over mobile networks.

“As the fastest growing global provider of LTE networks, especially in TD-LTE technology, ZTE is ideally placed to establish high-quality TD-LTE networks to make this model work smoothly,” said Dr. Zhao Xianming, ZTE EVP, CTO.

TV production is moving towards higher pixel formats, and transmission networks need more capacity to be able to handle 4k and 8k picture formats. TD-LTE is an excellent solution to deliver this increased capacity. With this technology, ZTE can provide 100 Mbps capacity over a 1 km radius from the nearest mobile network antenna. Using Quality of Service parameters used to maintain mobile network connections, the quality of the video signal can be assured.

The CloudStreet technology ensures that the network capacity is not oversold; ensuring video transmission customers have the service level that they specifically require. Different capacities can be reserved for SD, HD, 4k and 8k streams. These different capacity ‘products’ are created based on 3GPP standards that define the bandwidth requirements for different user profiles. CloudStreet changes the profiles dynamically based on user need and network capacity. Each profile has a defined time and location, making the CloudStreet model scalable to each network’s capacity.

The new 3.5G TD-LTE network is able to co-exist with the LTE FDD network and utilize the same core network, so that the 3.5G TD-LTE system can deliver more capacity. With E-Plus’s pioneering vision and ZTE’s extensive experience in LTE network integration and deployment, the companies aim to provide a professional service for a wide range of customers as quickly and smoothly as possible.

This solution is also expected to provide a demonstration for other operators on how to tap into this major new business opportunity.
