26 March 2009, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE” - H share stock code: 00763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ) a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that it has clinched a 1-year agreement with Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn. The project will bring unparallel user experience to P1’s subscribers to access the internet faster, via a ubiquitous and high quality wireless broadband network. The partnership is part of P1’s continuous growth strategy to ramping up its WiMAX coverage for its W1MAX network in Malaysia aimed at achieving a target of 30% to 35% population coverage by end of 2009.

Under the agreement, ZTE will provide technical aid and solution to P1 through including the provision of WiMAX equipment, network planning and design, engineering services and network optimization. The network expansion project will involve the deployment of WiMAX equipment in over 450 new sites strategically located across Malaysia. P1 aims to expand its WiMAX coverage by over 900 sites by year end. The company has  allocated a CAPEX of RM1 billion to support its aggressive network and product rollout plan over the next five years. Since P1 launched its P1 W1MAX high-speed wireless broadband service in August 2008, the service has been available in several areas in the Klang Valley, and selected locations in Johor, Kedah and Penang.

“We’re pleased to collaborate with P1 to further expand its WiMAX network in Malaysia in order to meet the country’s strong market demand. The partnership with P1 fully demonstrates our leading position in the WiMAX arena. With this agreement, we have formalized a solid partnership with P1 and would allow us to closely collaborate with P1 to deliver innovative and tailor-made WiMAX technologies and products in Malaysia. We’ll strive to help them offer the best high-speed wireless broadband experience to all its Malaysian customers,” said Zhao Songpu, Chief Executive Officer of WiMAX Products, ZTE Corporation.

“Our goal is simple – to make broadband a right for all Malaysians. To deliver this commitment, the rapid and quality deployment of the P1 W1MAX network is crucial. P1’s appointment of ZTE is another step in crystallising our commitment by accelerating the deployment of P1 W1MAX networks in more areas to meet the overwhelming consumer demand for high-quality, high-performance wireless broadband,” explained Michael Lai, Chief Executive Officer, P1.

“Malaysia aims to achieve 50% broadband penetration by 2010 and as a staunch believer of broadband for all, P1 is eager to play a very proactive role in assisting the nation to achieve this.
