Project Will Significantly Help CAT Telecom Enhance Bandwidth Capacity to Meet Local Demand

26 February 2009, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, is again selected by the CAT Telecom Public Company Limited (“CAT Telecom”) to help the company construct a large-scale national backbone optical network covering the entire territory of Thailand. The two organizations have collaborated in previous projects and this new partnership is aimed at helping CAT Telecom address the challenging issue of improving their bandwidth capacity to meet growing demand for new telecom services in the country. This new contract further reaffirms ZTE’s leading position in the optical networking industry.

Under the agreement, ZTE will provide CAT Telecom with its DWDM ZXWM M900 backbone transmission platform that will allow the telecom operator to deploy about 10,000 kilometers of DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) fiber optical cable. This will result in enormous bandwidth capacity that will help boost CAT Telecom network’s transmission speed, hence enhancing users’ mobile and telecom experience. In order to improve traffic transmission and network quality of CAT Telecom’s communications infrastructure, ZTE will also supply multiple ROADM (Re-configurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer) equipment that will be installed in different sites in Thailand.

Upon completion of the project, CAT Telecom will have a national network capable of providing high-speed optical fiber transmission that will significantly enhance Thailand’s telecommunications industry. This will contribute in offering the local business community with a highly reliable communications infrastructure and in effect support the country’s economic development.

Once fully operational, the national backbone network will provide CAT Telecom with an advanced and sophisticated communications infrastructure. The network will be equipped with DWDM long-distance and provincial trunk lines, and local MANs (Metropolitan Area Network) that will extensively carry IP services, including 1GE, 10GE and other access services.

“Previously, we’d successfully cooperated with CAT Telecom in several projects and we believe this made it easier for them to select us anew for this new national network project. We are delighted to again partner with CAT Telecom,” said Mr. Han Ling, Vice General Manager of ZTE Bearer Network Products. “The excellent quality of our optical networking products and solutions, and world-class services are key factors why we continuously win the industry’s trust.”

According to a report by international telecom consulting company Ovum, optical network sales in Asia/Pacific Region grew 19% quarter-by-quarter in Q2 2008, up 30% year-on-year. In the said report, ZTE had the fastest year-on-year growth with quarterly market share reaching 12%, enough to rank the company in third position in the market. In addition, Ovum’s latest report also ranked ZTE 2nd in Asian Pacific backbone DWDM product market.

Business-wise, ZTE continues to expand in the international market by helping carriers deploy large-scale backbone transmission networks in several countries. The company’s optical network products have been widely installed in Europe, Latin America, Asia/Pacific, South Asia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Africa and the Middle East.
