Vienna, Austria, October 15, 2026 – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a global leading provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions, presented its vision for the intelligent home at Network X 2026, outlining how AI, Wi-Fi evolution and edge intelligence can transform home broadband from a connectivity service into an intelligent experience platform.

Speaking at Network X 2026, Hans Neff, Deputy CTO Europe and Americas at ZTE, outlined a fundamental change in how operators can approach the connected home: moving from managing connectivity and responding to faults toward continuously understanding and assuring the digital experience.

As the home supports an increasingly diverse mix of work, entertainment, gaming, smart-home, security and emerging AI applications, simply providing more bandwidth does not necessarily guarantee the experience customers expect. Different applications, devices and users place different demands on latency, reliability, coverage, responsiveness and consistency.

For operators, ZTE sees this as an opportunity to evolve the broadband proposition from connectivity toward experience — and ultimately toward an intelligent home environment capable of increasingly autonomous optimization.

AI Moves Wi-Fi Beyond Reactive Network Management

ZTE highlighted the potential for AI to change how operators manage and assure home networks. Instead of responding only after connectivity problems occur, AI-enabled networks can continuously observe network conditions, understand usage context, anticipate potential degradation and optimize performance. This points toward a model of AI-enabled experience assurance, in which the network looks beyond whether a connection is available to assess whether the expected experience is actually being delivered. Such an approach can also support greater automation, enabling networks to continuously optimize performance, resilience and security while reducing the need for manual intervention.

Wi-Fi Evolution Shifts Focus Toward Resilience

The evolution of Wi-Fi technology is providing another foundation for this transition. ZTE highlighted the development of Wi-Fi 7 and the direction of future generations, where capabilities such as multi-link operation, coordination, mobility and resilience are becoming increasingly important. As more devices and demanding applications depend on the home network, the focus is consequently extending beyond peak throughput toward more consistent and predictable performance across different use cases.

Home Gateway Emerges as an Intelligent Platform

The changing role of the home gateway was another focus of the discussion. Traditionally positioned as the connection point between broadband access and devices in the home, the gateway is increasingly capable of supporting intelligence at the network edge and connecting broadband, Wi-Fi, smart-home devices, cloud capabilities and digital services. For operators, this can provide greater visibility into the home environment while creating opportunities to strengthen network assurance, security and digital services.

Operators Look Beyond Bandwidth

The evolution also has implications for the way operators approach the home broadband market. As speed and coverage increasingly become baseline expectations, differentiation can shift toward the reliability, intelligence and quality of the overall digital experience.

"Connectivity remains the foundation, but the next stage of broadband evolution is about what the network can understand and how intelligently it can respond," said Hans Neff. "AI-enabled networks can help operators move from reactive network management toward continuous experience assurance, creating a more responsive and intelligent digital home."

The discussion at Network X 2026 reflects a broader evolution in home broadband, where the value of Wi-Fi is increasingly extending beyond the connection itself to the intelligence, assurance and services built around it.
