13 March 2014, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, has implemented an intelligent pharmacy logistics and information-based pharmacy system project for the Ministry of Health in Venezuela.

The Ministry of Health is responsible for the supervision, management and strategic implementation of national healthcare, and provides free healthcare services and drugs for people. Drug management in Venezuela is a challenge, and serious economic losses can be incurred as a result of expired or lost drugs.

In April 2011, ZTE and the Venezuelan Ministry of Health signed a contract to build the intelligent pharmacy logistics and information-based pharmacy system. This project includes an intelligent pharmacy supply chain management system, five large automated drug distribution centres, and digital systems in regional hospitals. It will enable nationwide warehousing and distribution of drugs and pharmacy devices, and implement digitalisation in some hospitals to improve national healthcare in the country.

The intelligent pharmacy logistics and information-based pharmacy system is the first large intelligent health system in Venezuela. This system, focused on an intelligent pharmacy supervision system, is a private healthcare network based on optical transmission, wireless bridge transmission, and virtual private network technologies, and provides intelligent drug purchase, order processing, inventory management, transport management, planning, and business intelligence functions.

Several large intelligent regional distribution centres are built for automated package services of the receipt, storage and movement of drugs and for efficient warehouse management. The digital transport management system uses geographic information databases and electronic maps to monitor the status of drug transport vehicles in real time in order to avoid drug loss.

The intelligent pharmacy logistics and information-based pharmacy system will resolve the drug management challenges faced by Venezuela and will make intelligent drug management a reality. The visual management and automated warehousing processes can greatly reduce the cost of drug logistics, and improve pharmacy management and healthcare throughout the country.

In recent years, ZTE has been making advances in the enterprise business field, and has made rapid development in the energy, transport, public utilities, finance, and Internet industries by providing information and communications solutions that are efficient and can be customised to meet individual customer organisation requirements.
