ZXONE 8700 Solutions from ZTE to power Alibaba’s world-leading e-commerce platforms

5 June 2013, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, is pleased to win an exclusive agreement from Alibaba Group to construct optical transport networks and support the continued rapid growth in Alibaba’s world-leading e-commerce platforms.

ZTE’s industry-leading ZXONE 8700 100G OTN series will be deployed to build Alibaba’s 100G transmission network. The first phase of the project will cover four MANs in Hangzhou, Tianjin and Beijing respectively. The ultra-large bandwidth, high capacity, and robust reliability of ZTE’s solutions, and the ability to provision a comprehensive range of services will serve the enormous networking needs of Alibaba, and support the continued high-speed growth of Alibaba’s operations. ZTE is pleased to become a long-term partner for Alibaba’s broadband network construction and deployment.

Alibaba Group is one of the world’s largest e-commerce companies, operating more than 10 platforms including Alibaba.com, Taobao Marketplace, Tmall.com, eTao, Alipay, Juhuasuan, Alibaba Cloud Computing and China Yahoo! When the construction of the broadband network is completed, it will carry most of Alibaba’s data traffic.

The contract with Alibaba is the latest large-scale deployment of ZTE’s 100G products in the enterprise and government ICT solutions market.

ZTE currently ranks second in the global optical networking market, with leading positions in 100G and beyond-100G solutions. ZTE operates a research and development center for beyond-100G in North America, and has partnerships with mainstream telecommunications operators in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Asia Pacific in network deployments of 100G and beyond-100G solutions. At present, ZTE’s 100G solutions are deployed in more than 30 commercial and trial networks globally.

In China, ZTE has built a 100G backbone bearer network for China Education and Research Network (CERNET) that spans more than 10,000 kilometers. According to the latest data from telecommunications consultancy Frost & Sullivan, ZTE is a global top-5 provider of 100G optical networking systems.
