China achieves another breakthrough in the field of communications standards

13 December 2012, Shenzhen, China ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, has announced that the GoTa (Global open Trunking architecture) digital trunking standard submitted by China was accepted by the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) reporton the ITU conference in Geneva. This marks another breakthrough in the field of communications standards for Chinese technology developers.

GoTa, now the digital trunking standard for the next generation, was jointly developed by ZTE and Chinese national research departments. A digital trunking system is a mobile communications network – using network-specific handsets communicating over a network just like a mobile phone system – that provides group scheduling command and communications with a high degree of security. It has been widely used by government organisations to provide scheduling and security for events such as Olympic Games, National Games, the European Cup and other major sporting events, as well as in public security, fire, ports, logistics, construction, transportation, forestry, rental, factories and enterprises as well as for individual requirements.

" It is very significant that GoTa has been accepted by international standard," said Lang Baozhen, expertof the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR) at the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. "GoTa enters the field of digital trunking which has so far been dominated by other companies, and is a major advertisement for the industry-leading innovations coming out of the Chinese mobile communications industry. GoTa becoming international standard will help increase the reputation of the Chinese mobile communications sector in the international arena.

"In addition to the strategic significance of this development, GoTa technology has the potential to bring about 2 million  to 7 million USD of revenue for the whole industry supply chain including hardware and software development, data applications and systems integration," said Xie Daxiong , SeniorVicePresidentof ZTE.“Cooperating with global industry colleagues, ZTE are willing to promote GoTa digital trunking cluster technology development, and make more contribution for the world’s communication industry.

GoTa was approved as a Chinese digital trunking standard by the China Ministry of Industry in 2008. GoTa is based on 3G technology, and can be evolved to the next generation of broadband, multimedia based digital trunking technology.

By providing an end-to-end solution, GoTa technology can offer public and enterprise service providers many valued added features for improving services and generating additional revenue.

GoTa networks are working in more than 40 countries worldwide including Norway, Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Ghana and Morocco, covering more than 100 industries, with more than three million lines in global commercial deployment.
