14 June 2012, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has been awarded the Fixed Backbone Innovation award from Global Telecoms Business for its WASON (WDM Automatic Switch Optical Network) solution. The national backbone network was the first ZTE WASON intelligent WDM/OTN network in Europe and was deployed by T-Mobile Austria.

ZTE partnered with T-Mobile Austria to provide a national backbone transmission network for the carrier which enables the delivery of services up to 10G across Austria. Currently in operation, the network functions seamlessly from end to end and can be scaled to operate at speeds of 100G for low cost network expansion. The advanced technology which includes a combination of ROADM and OTN switch based electrical cross connections enables flexible multi-service access scheduling and makes full use of fiber resources.

The main services in the existing network include backbone MPLS router connections and an SDH ring link. By successfully introducing ZTE’s WASON intelligent control software, ZTE’s solution provides network protection for the breakdown of fibers and to service failing connections, enhancing network stability, reliability and significantly reducing operating expenditure.

“We are delighted to have been awarded the Innovation Award with T-Mobile Austria by GTB," said Dr. Li Ming, vice president of Europe and North America Region, ZTE Corporation. “The award recognizes the joint efforts made between ZTE and its partners and we will continue to utilize our technological knowledge and innovation to ensure a prosperous future with our network partners”.

“ZTE was also recognized for its iOTN solution in the Broadband Infovision Awards at Broadband World Forum and is very excited about this second accolade recognizing our OTN products,” Dr. Li Ming continued.

According to the latest report published by the research firm Ovum, ZTE’s annual revenues for fixed line solutions now surpass $1.7 billion with a 29 percent increase compared with 2010 and a rapid growth to 10.9 per cent market share. ZTE gained the most market shares of any company in the world for the second straight year in the global optical network market.
