26January 2011, Shenzhen – ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced formation of a partnership with ChinaTel to promote the process of broadband access solutions and services worldwide. ZTE Corporation and Perusat, the subsidiary of ChinaTel in Peru, have been deploying a nationwide WiMAX (LTE-Ready) network in Peru. Phase one encompasses the eight most populated cities of Peru except Lima. Further expansion will cover the rest cities in Peru, including Lima and Callao.

The national network deployment is expected to be completed by 2017. ChinaTel has chosen to upgrade the first base station equipment ZTE is manufacturing for Perusat to take advantage of ZTE's latest wireless broadband technology, 4T8R beam forming. ChinaTel recently delivered the down payment for the order, and ZTE has commenced manufacturing. ZTE expects to deliver the equipment to Peru by May 2011. ChinaTel estimates the commercial launch of the Peru network will occur by August 2011.

"We are excited about our partnership with ZTE and its ability to fully deliver broadband equipment and end-to-end network solutions,"said ChinaTel's CEO George Alvarez. "And that helps ChinaTel's networks to stay ahead of the global competition. ZTE's advanced technology provides us the flexibility to decide in each city whether to place these first base stations farther apart and increase the footprint of geographic coverage, or to maintain the original array and serve more initial subscribers before reaching the capacity of this equipment. Both options reduce and defer our average capital expense per subscriber, and improve our return on investment."

ChinaTel's President, Colin Tay, added: "Our relationship with ZTE strengthens our plan to be at the forefront of delivering advanced internet technologies across the globe as we continue to build our infrastructure in emerging markets like Latin America and Asia."

"ZTE is pleased to add ChinaTel as our strategic partner for development of wireless broadband networks," said Mr. Zhou Hongfeng, VP of ZTE. "We are excited to work with ChinaTel to develop innovative new products and solutions to meet the expectations of commercial, government and residential subscribers to realize the full potential of wireless multi-media technologies."
