Düsseldorf/Shenzhen, 07.01.2011 – ZTE, a leading provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has announced the launch of its Android based handset Lutea, which is available through German network operator E-Plus. The co-branded Lutea handset is a Android Smartphone that challenges high-end devices with industry leading features at an affordable price point. The device is another example of ZTE's strong position as a leading global handset manufacturer across Europe.

ZTE's Lutea is based on Android 2.1 and provides a capacitive 3.5' multi touchscreen with 480x800 megapixels. It features an MP3 player and FM-radio, as well as a 5-megapixel camera, 3GSM, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The phone also supports a data capacity of up to 32 GB, and comes with a 2 GB micro SD card inbox and in-built memory of 300 MB.

ZTE's bestselling mobile smartphone - known as ZTE Blade in other countries - has been made available in more than 20 high-end markets including the UK, France, Finland, Norway, Turkey, Hungary and Japan. Monthly sales unit volume continues to grow and are up by tens of thousands.

The launch of Lutea is the first ZTE-branded handset in the German market. Until recently, Chinese equipment providers focused on producing ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) devices for European operators – handsets and USB modems which were sold under the brand name of the respective mobile operator. As part of the company's development, ZTE formed agreements on co-branded and own branded handsets in some European countries. French carrier Bouygues launched two ZTE-branded Android handsets in 2010, Three in the UK offers ZTE F930 with the ZTE logo and in Portugal, the ZTE-branded Bluebelt holds 30 percent of the local Smartphone market.

"In Europe we have reached a year-on-year increase of 150 percent in terms of handset shipments. In the UK and France, the sales of handsets in 2010 exceeded 3 million units," explains Betty Cui, Vice President, ZTE Corporation. "We are very happy with the launch of our Android device with E-Plus. This partnership will further deepen our very business and relations with the company. With this device, we want to support our partner in offering cost effective and high quality smartphones to customers, helping to provide innovative mobile services to the German end-users."
