Carrier-grade end-to-end multimedia/streaming media solution

with landmark IMS terminal "ZTE Light"

10 November 2010, Shenzhen - ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today launched its IMS-based zMILE (ZTE's Multimedia Integrated Life Experience) solution, which closely matches the needs of multimedia and streaming media services to deliver high quality multimedia experiences to legacy end users over fixed and mobile networks.

The zMILE solution is a total IMS-based full-service solution, including IMS core network, RCS-compliant APP, and the 7 inch touch-screen ZTE Light multimedia tablet terminal with inbuilt an IMS client.

zMILE, as a carrier-class multimedia solution, enables a breakthrough for both users and operators in delivering a true multimedia experience over mobile and/or fixed networks. It supports access via 3G, Wi-Fi, FTTx and xDSL and completely replaces existing desktop PSTN/ISDN/SIP terminals. Besides traditional voice and SMS services, the ZTE Light tablet offers a wide range of multimedia and streaming media services, such as IPTV, rich calls, media sharing, HD video conferencing, surveillance, Web IMS applications, multimedia messaging, MRBT/MRAT and enhanced phone book.

The ZTE Light terminal runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system. It can also be connected to a handheld dialing unit or used with a HiFi speaker dock, so that users can make calls and answer calls the way they are used to.

For carriers, the zMILE solution manages carriers' network status and network load to deliver versatile solutions with the best possible efficiency.

Voice and SMS make up the main sources of revenue for mobile operators. These services can be realized in the CS domain, so that the reliability and stability of the services can be guaranteed. Multimedia and streaming media services are realized in the PS domain using 3G, LTE or Wi-Fi networks.

Fixed carrier customers can enjoy VoIP, SMS, multimedia and streaming media services through the ZTE Light terminal using FTTx/xDSL and Wi-Fi access. Compared to existing PSTN phone sets, the ZTE Light terminal not only satisfies users' requirements for traditional voice services to a handset, but also offers SMS and other multimedia and streaming media applications, greatly enhancing user experience and increasing operators' ARPU.

zMILE adopts a standard IMS core network architecture and RCS-compliant APP. Carrier-class multimedia/streaming media services offered by an IMS core network have many advantages in terms of QoS, security, charging, access independence and interconnection with existing networks, as well as following local telecom industry rules. RCS is the most widely accepted multimedia service specification from GSMA. APP and terminals adopting the RCS standard have outstanding interconnecting and upgrading capabilities. Based on this architecture, zMILE provides new services more conveniently and quickly, and also performs the most comprehensive and integrated services with the best possible service control capability.

zMILE, as a milestone multimedia application solution, is completely different from traditional application-focused Web value-added services and can bring revolutionary changes to both users and operators.

"ZTE is always focused on providing innovative IMS products and solutions for our global customers and wants to help customers solve the real problems on network and services, and to achieve many milestones and key improvements for their business," said Mr. Wang Xiaoqiang, Vice President of ZTE's Core Network Products.
