26 October 2010, ShenzhenAccording to telecoms industry analyst Ovum, in 2Q10, ZTE's GPON revenues (OLT ports and ONT/ONU combined) grew the fastest year on year among the top 10 GPON vendors in the industry,

Ovum's "Market Share - FTTx, DSL, and CMTS ports 2010 Q2" report, also ranked ZTE no. 2 in FTTx (OLT port) shipments on a rolling four quarter basis (3Q09 to 2Q10).

ZTE will deploy an FTTB/H network for Tiscali in Italy and has won successive GPON contracts from operators in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Eastern Europe. Thanks to these contracts, ZTE has become the leading GPON equipment provider.

GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) technology is a mainstream component of next-generation optical broadband networks that delivers nearly one hundred megabytes of bandwidth to end users. It has been mainly deployed in North America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East, but its application has also been growing in India, Russia and Western Europe.

The worldwide application of ZTE's xPON optical access products has reached 63 million lines including over 30 million broadband ports, making ZTE a pillar of the global optical access market.

ZTE's array of GPON orders in Europe includes a strategic partnership agreement with Tiscali aiming to foster the development of ultra-wide broadband by FTTH technology in Italy, projects for building a new-generation network for TEO of Lithuania and deploying an optical access network in Romania for the multinational telecom operator RDS & RCS. ZTE has also co-operated with several leading Western European operators and joined with a number of operators to carry out certifications on next-generation PON technology to help initiate large-scale GPON construction programs. At Invitel in Hungary, ZTE is shortlisted and is conducting pilot projects to prove the capabilities of the solution in real service situations.

ZTE's xPON solutions have a full range of features that enable operators to build operable, manageable access networks with reduced energy requirements and improved environmental protection. ZTE solutions can deliver end-to-end ODN planning and deployment, fast activation of services, convenient network operation and maintenance, and smooth network evolution.

ZTE Vice President Xu Ming noted: "European markets, as a frontier for the application of new technologies, have more demanding requirements for our technical and service capabilities. By drawing on our experience in deploying 63 million lines of PON worldwide, ZTE is confident of offering European operators the best products and services for their network development."
