UK-based telecoms services provider installs ZTE NGN and transmission systems in major system upgrade

03 May 2011, London – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has completed installation of a next generation network (NGN) system and a transmission system for QiComm, the UK-based provider of carrier-class voice and data services and managed services.

The ZTE NGN system provides QiComm with a state-of the-art carrier-class switching system, at a new site in London’s Docklands, to service its rapidly expanding telecoms service provision business. The NGN system equipment requires significantly less space and power than the legacy switching system it replaces. The ZTE transport system connects QiComm to major telcos and inter-connects in the Docklands area including the three key Telehouses.

"ZTE has exceeded our expectations on all aspects of the delivery, installation and commissioning of the NGN system equipment to meet our tight timescales,” said QiComm CEO Pat Nabhan. “In addition, ZTE provided all the necessary resources to achieve UK Type Approval for the NGN on schedule.”

"QiComm is a key player in the UK telecoms market, and these systems give them and their customers the ability to grow and deliver high speed, high standard services now and well into the future,” said ZTE UK MD Jim Jing Hui. “We are proud to be contributing to the growth of one of the UK telecom sector’s most innovative and fast-growing companies.”

The ZTE NGN system takes up just 10 racks, compared to the two floors required for the equipment it replaces, and will reduce power consumption by as much as 75 percent.

ZTE’s ZXSS10 SS1b deployed as a key part of the QiComm NGN provides high volume traffic handling and route management capacity. The installation also included a ZTE MSG9000 multi-service gateway and ZTE SBC (session border controller) equipment. Qicomm is now connecting the majority of its customers via IP and TDM bearers through the NGN.

The ZTE transport system provides large-capacity, long-haul transmission using multi-service access functions with complete protection. It can efficiently transmit voice and data services from the same platform.

ZTE is one of the five major global producers of telecommunications equipment, producing equipment for all telecoms standards in fixed and mobile networks. It is also a top five manufacturer of handsets according to industry analyst IDC.
