23 June 2009, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that it has partnered with Telkomsel, the largest telecom operator in Indonesia, to help build its GSM/UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) network in the country. Telkomsel is jointly owned by Indonesia's Telkom and SingTel.

As one of the key equipment providers for Telkomsel under this contract, ZTE will provide a series of advanced GSM/UMTS solutions to help maximize Telkomsel’s ROI (return on investment) and bring unparalleled subscriber experience and access with GSM/UMTS high-speed data services.

With a total population of 240 million, Indonesia is the fourth largest country in the world. In terms of scale of development potentials, it is ranked amongst the top four telecom markets in the world. Telkomsel holds 50% of the total market share in Indonesia’s telecom industry.

ZTE’s partnership with Telkomsel marks a win-win opportunity for both companies,” said Mr. Tian Wenguo, Vice President, ZTE Corporation. “By combining Telkomsel’s market-leading position with ZTE’s strong customization of innovative technology and wireless product solutions, the collaboration will further solidify both parties’ strengths in Indonesia and the Asia market as a whole.”

“We’re pleased to forge a strategic collaboration with ZTE to build our GSM/UMTS network in Indonesia and reach our goal of offering customers a 3G high-speed data services network in 147 cities by 2013,” said Mr. Sarwoto Atmosutarno, President Director of Telkomsel. “We’re committed to providing the best communications network to our end-users to enhance their network experiences. ZTE’s advanced network equipment and excellent after-sales service supports will help us achieve this goal.”

ZTE is committed to the development of UMTS and has been playing an active role in supporting the industry by providing UMTS solutions to worldwide markets. Since late 2008, ZTE has partnered with some of the world’s leading telecom operators to establish UMTS networks, including Hong Kong mobile operator CSL Limited, China’s Unicom, Turkey’s third largest operator AVEA, and Vietnam’s largest operator Viettel. In terms of population, these countries are in the world’s top 20, and all have robust telecom business growth potential. ZTE’s CSL partnership is set to build the world’s first SDR-based HSPA+ all-IP commercial network by deploying more than 2,000 base stations in just 11 months.

For its innovative technology and outstanding services, ZTE secured the bid for Unicom’s Phase I WCDMA tender in China. The company has now successfully entered into more than half of China’s provincial market, including Guangdong, Fujian, Shandong, Tianjin and other China provinces. ZTE has also successfully helped Unicom complete its Phase I WCDMA network deployment in the above developed provinces.
