CDMA SDR Base Stations Account for 91% of Total Units

18 May 2009, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that it shipped 48,000 CDMA base station units worldwide in the first four months of 2009, almost reaching the 2008 total shipment volume. CDMA SDR-based base stations accounted for 91% of the total 48,000 shipments. Its ZXSDR BS8800, a SDR base station with high capacity of 48 carrier-sectors, shipped over 25,000 units over the same period.  The substantial growth in ZTE’s CDMA base station business is primarily driven by the expanding worldwide market including the rapidly growing 3G industry in China.

“For three consecutive years from 2006 to 2008, ZTE was ranked as the world leader in CDMA base station shipment volume,” said Ms. Li Jian, General Manager of CDMA Products, ZTE Corporation. “In terms of the carrier-sector, ZTE holds over 40 percent market share in China’s CDMA market, making us the biggest provider in the country. We are committed to continuing to provide first-class, leading-edge CDMA equipment to our global customers to meet their market demands.”

During the last four months in the developed coastal areas of China, ZTE’s CDMA product adoption experienced a considerable rise: ZTE is the exclusive CDMA equipmentsupplier for the cities of Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai of Shandong Province. Also during this time period, ZTE achieved 75% market share in Fujian Province covering the major municipalities of Fuzhou and Quanzhou.

In addition to the advantages of offering competitive product cost and strong R&D, ZTE has achieved many industry firsts to further cement its leadership, including: first provider to launch EV-DO Rev.B commercial system in the world; and first to establish industry IMS-based EV-DO video telephony (VT) in China. For its leading edge in the technology field, ZTE’s SDR soft base station platform has held a key position in three areas: technology, market application and cost competitiveness. ZTE’s Global open Trunking architecture (GoTa), a 3G-based digital trunking communication system has been widely adopted for commercial use in CDMA networks and deployed in more than 10 China provinces.

To date, ZTE’s CDMA base stations have exceeded a total volume shipment of 170,000 units globally. Its CDMA footprint has reached a total capacity of 200 million lines worldwide providing services to over 120 operators in more than 70 countries.
