Breakthrough Equipment to Strengthen Company's Position in Global WDM Market

11 March 2009, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced the launching of the world's first next-generation iWDM (Wavelength-Division Multiplexing) Solution integrated with Wavelength Switched Optical Network (WSON), Photonic Cross-Connect (PXC), L2 switch and Optical Transport Network (OTN) technologies to help operators address present and future network transmission challenges. This solution is expected to further strengthen ZTE’s global market position in the WDM industry.

As an intelligent WDM equipment with highly flexible IP bandwidth management and aggregation functions, iWDM enables efficient grooming of large granule services such as GE/10GE, a significant breakthrough over conventional WDM equipment which only serves as an optical fiber channel. iWDM's multiple intelligent protection at the optical, electric, data and WSON layers guarantees the development of complete 3G and IP communication services.

iWDM has other features including intelligent control plane, high-capacity optical layer and service layer scheduling, as well as reliable carrier-grade protection to leverage carriers' investment. The solution and product series was developed with the three important ‘I’s in mind: ‘IP-based’ interface and processing to help operators create new IP services, ‘intelligence’ in assisting enterprises to deploy intelligent optical networks; and finally ‘integration’ that allows operators to seamlessly integrate the equipment with existing infrastructure.

"We're pleased to roll out our iWDM Solution in the global market to fulfill the strong demand for cost-effective WDM equipment and in line with current industry developments," said Chen Yufei, Deputy General Manager of Bearer Network Product Line, ZTE Corporation. "ZTE is dedicated to providing operators with robust and reliable solutions that can protect existing investments and lower their TCO."

ZTE's iWDM product family consists of ZXWM M920, a long-haul optical network product; ZXONE 8600, a large capacity optical cross-connect network system; ZXMP M820, a metro optical network product; and ZXMP M720, a metro edge optical network product. All the equipment are based on green technology hence providing key features that benefit operators including compact size, low power consumption and high-level of integration.

With an in-depth understanding of the evolution of optical networking technology and proven track record in network construction, ZTE has supplied its optical networking products to over 250 operators in more than 90 countries covering Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Africa and Middle East.  ZTE's WDM equipment and solutions have been widely deployed worldwide to help build up national backbone network as well as MANs (Metropolitan Area Network) in Pakistan, Thailand, Romania, Portugal, among others.

ZTE has successfully launched industry-leading 40G WDM solution that caters to operators' requirements for a more comprehensive high-capacity and long-distance WDM technology. According to Ovum’s 2Q08 report, ZTE's optical networking sector is ranked third in Asia-Pacific market in terms of quarterly market share, and posted the strongest growth of rolling 4Q share among all vendors.
