Company Aims to Become a Model Global Corporation with Solid CSR Program

9 March 2009, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that it has become a member of the UN Global Compact. As a member of this prestigious global agency, ZTE will strictly abide the Ten Principles of the Global Compact in developing and carrying out its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.  ZTE is also set to release its first CSR report as part of its 2008 annual financial report later this month.

Since its inception, ZTE has always been adopting socially responsible corporate operations. As such, the company topped the ‘Top 10 Socially Responsible Enterprises’ in the communication industry in 2008 in China.

In support of the global campaign to protecting the environment and conserving energy, ZTE has been relentlessly conducting R&D initiatives to develop green solutions. Today, its products are based on green technology and have passed stringent product tests conducted by the British Telecom and other leading multinational European and US operators. As a result, the company has successively received a wide range of local and international green awards, including the ‘Best Green Innovation’.

Over the years, ZTE has been actively participating in public welfare activities worldwide, including natural disaster relief and educational aid programs. For example, during China’s Sichuan earthquake in 2008, ZTE quickly set up an Earthquake Relief Command Department to carry out communication relief work. It also donated 10 million RMB to establish China’s largest Special Fund for Children Care aimed at helping children to continue their education and undertaking reconstruction work in disaster-stricken regions. In addition, it donated 20 million RMB in cash and materials to aid victims of the Pacific tsunami and earthquake in South Asia in 2004. For its outstanding contributions in the society, ZTE has been chosen as the only representative in the communications industry in The Wall Street Journal’s10 Most Respected Enterprises in China’.

The Global Compact is an authoritative UN agency and the world’s largest voluntary corporate citizenship initiative. Currently, the UN Global Compact has over 7,000 corporate and non-corporate members from more than 100 countries.
