ZTE Wins Shanghai Telecom IPTV Contract

ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has signed a contract to provide IPTV equipment with Shanghai Telecom, the local branch of China磗 largest fixed-line carrier China Telecom.

Under the terms of the contract, ZTE will start providing IPTV equipment for several districts of Shanghai offering services such as VoD (Video-on-Demand), broadcasting, Time-Shifted Television (TSTV), PVR (Personal Video Recorder) and NVoD (Near Video on Demand) as well as value-added services such as interactive games, information services, instant communications, online albums, and E-learning.

"Much has been said about what will replace voice as the next 磌iller application�.  Over the next few years we will see telecom operators offering and deriving serious revenues from broadcast services" said  Mr Yu Yifang, GM of ZTE multimedia product lines.  "This agreement with Shanghai Telecom solidifies ZTE磗 position as China磗 largest and one of the world磗 foremost IPTV systems providers allowing operators to move into the world of multimedia entertainment".

ZTE has already won IPTV contracts with the Guandong, Shannxi and Jiangsu branches of China Telecom as well as already initiating trial IPTV projects in Kunming and Lijiang city in Yunnan Province, which were put into full commercial operation in January. ZTE has also won IPTV deals in Europe and Latin America in 2005.
