Ghana is to receive its first CDMA communications network following a contract signed between ZTE Corporation (Shenzhen: 000063, Hong Kong: 0763), China´s largest listed telecommunications equipment manufacturer and leading wireless solutions provider, and Kasapa Telecom Ltd, a subsidiary of Hutchison Telecom.
Under the contract, signed this week in Accra, ZTE is the sole vendor responsible for the construction of a new nationwide digital network based on CDMA2000 technology. The nationwide network will provide the people of Ghana with affordable voice and data telecommunications solutions for mobile, home and business.
"ZTE´s integrated services delivered on a single CDMA2000 1X network give us an efficiency nobody can match," said Mr Robert Palitz, managing director of Kasapa Telecom. "Every Kasapa customer knows our policy is to share efficiencies with the customers. Kasapa and ZTE will make wonderful things happen in Ghana."
Africa is an important market for ZTE: the Corporation´s products have already been deployed in more than 14 countries, including Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya, Zambia, Algeria, and Ethiopia. In September 2004, ZTE constructed a UMTS network in Tunisia and, this year, will install a nationwide GSM network for Algeria.

To date, ZTE is the only Chinese vendor with a complete package of independently developed base stations and switching systems with self-owned brands in the field of CDMA products. By the end of 2004, ZTE had deployed 20 million lines of CDMA in 50 countries around the world.
