ZTE Corporation of China – global suppliers of advanced telecommunications infrastructure – has continued its international expansion after a month of major contract wins outside Asia.

After announcing it was to build Africa´s most advanced 3G mobile telecommunications network for the PTT in Tunisia, ZTE won a nationwide deal to supply its latest videoconferencing equipment to Saudi Arabia and followed this up with news that it was to supply ADSL to the Greek telecommunications organisation OTE to support the Olympic games.

These successes come close behind a CDMA WLL access system for the Nile River Delta in Egypt and ZTE´s highly successful appearances at ITU Africa in Cairo and the Arab Telecom and Internet Forum in Doha, Qatar – the latter visited by the Prime Ministers of both Qatar and Egypt.

"Our aim is to become the leading supplier to the Middle East and Africa – as we said at the ITU show in Cairo – and these contract wins show that we are backing up our ambition with delivery," said Zeng Li, ZTE´s Marketing Director.

"We feel we are developing a good understanding of the market conditions and the needs of the telecom operators and our range of solutions – plus the quality of our people – is giving us great opportunities".

Since its foundation in 1985 – less than 20 years ago – ZTE has dedicated itself to continual R & D spend and the employment of highly skilled personnel. It has continually invested more than 10% of revenues in research – established whoolly owned research centres around the world and more than 80% of staff are of degree level quality.

"We are totally committed to our customers – both in terms of providing them with solutions they need at competitive prices and also offering complete installation, support and all the training they need. Our customers know they can rely on ZTE to be there whenever they need them," said Mr Zeng.

Good examples of ZTE´s relationships with its customers include the 3G network in Tunisia, where ZTE will help build a network initially focused on Tunis – host city for the Information Society´s World Summit in 2005 – and Sousse – the country´s best known holiday resort, which attracts thousands of visitors from Europe each year.

In Saudi Arabia, ZTE´s BAVO videoconferencing network will initially focus on Riyadh and five other major cities before going national. The BAVO system is the leading videoconferencing system in China and now more than 20,000 units have been supplied overseas.

Broadband Internet services were the requirement for Greek telecommunications operators OTE and ZTE were able to supply ADSL to serve 16 points around all the major Olympic venues, including the main stadiums, international broadcasting centres and the press village. This contract was the first time that a Chinese company had provided telecoms equipment for the Olympic Games.
