Eritrea´s President Visited ZTE during Chinese Lantern Festival

Feb 23 is China´s traditional Lantern Festival. At this special day, ZTE Corporation received a group of distinguished friends from Africa. His Majesty, H.E, Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea, visited ZTE Headquarters in Shenzhen. Other government officers of Eritrea together with over 10 senior officers from Shenzhen Municipal Government accompanied the president during the visit.

The president first visited ZTE´s newly decorated exhibition hall and showed great interest in ZTE´s technologies. The president also highly commented on the Chinese national hi-tech achievements in recent years. ZTE´s production line is grand, spacious, also giving the president very deep impression.

As early as Oct 18 2004, Eri-Ttel, Eritrea´s national operator, had already invited ZTE Corporation to join the proposal on Eri-Ttel´s CDMA WLL and Fixed Network Projects. Eri-Ttel and ZTE Corporation co-signed on Memorandum of Understanding . According to the proposal, ZTE Corporation would help Eri-Ttel build CDMA WLL and Fixed Network projects in three phrases. 

ZTE continues to increase its market share in Africa with products already deployed in more than 14 countries including Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya, Zambia, Algeria, and Ethiopia. In 2004, ZTE beat all other competitor vendors to make the first ever 3G call in Tunisia; ZTE´s GSM products have been used in large-scale applications in Nigeria and Ethiopia; and, also in 2004, ZTE was selected by Egypt Telecom to construct a large-scale CDMA network covering the Nile River Delta.

Eritrea´s president was invited to China by the Department of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People´s Republic of China. Accompanying the president were other 20 government officers invited, including the Minister of National Development, Minister of Education, etc. On Feb. 17, Chinese Chairman Mr Hu Jintao met with the president at People´s Great Hall in Beijing.
