ZTE Corporation, the fastest growing global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that it is an official telecommunications partner of the United Nations´ "World Summit on the Information Society" (WSIS).  ZTE is providing UMTS, CDMA GOTA/EVDO/WLL, ADSL equipment and 500 GoTa terminals to serve more than 15,000 representatives from over 190 countries during the Summit which is being hosted by the Government of Tunisia from 16 to 18 November 2005.

"ZTE has worked with the Tunisian Government to equip the country with some of the latest communications technology including GOTA, UMTS, wireless local loop and last mile fixed and wireless broadband access networks. Through this work, we were convinced that ZTE has the capability to deliver the GoTa and 3G technology and services that will make the second phase of the WSIS summit another great success." said Mr. Habib Ammar, Chairman of COSMSI, the WSIS organising committee in Tunisia.

In June 2004, ZTE signed an agreement to build Africa´s most advanced 3G mobile network for Tunisia´s Ministry of Technologies of Communication.  Within three months, the company announced that it had made the first ever 3G call in Tunisia. The ZTE UMTS network covers Tunisia´s two most important cities, Sousse and Tunis.

About the WORLD SUMMIT ON THE INFORMATION SOCIETY (WSIS)

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is held in two phases. The first phase of WSIS took place in Geneva hosted by the Government of Switzerland from 10 to 12 December 2003, where 175 countries adopted a Declaration of Principles and Plan of Action. The second phase will take place in Tunis hosted by the Government of Tunisia, from 16 to 18 November 2005.  The UN agency that takes the lead in organizing the Summit is the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).  In the second phase of WSIS efforts are being made to put the Plan of Action into motion and working groups have been set up to find solutions and reach agreements in the fields of Internet governance and financing mechanisms.  For more information please visit http://www.itu.int/wsis/#2
