Corporation´s success in Tunisia earns role as official partner

ZTE Corporation has today announced a sponsorship agreement in which it is the first Chinese company to become the official partner of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and will provide a complete package of solutions and services, including its state-of-the-art GoTa technology, to the second phase of the ITU event, to be held in Tunis, November 16-18 2005.

The Corporation´s role as official partner to the WSIS was announced by Mr Habib Ammar, Chairman of COSMSI, the organising committee of the second phase of WSIS, who praised the quality of ZTE´s technology and the Corporation´s work in the region over recent years, including the construction for the Tunisian Government of UMTS, CDMA WLL/EVDO and ADSL/WLAN networks.

"We are very confident of the quality and reliability of ZTE Corporation´s technology and services being used at the summit," said Mr. Ammar.  "Through its work in Tunisia in 2004 and 2005, we are convinced that ZTE has the capability to deliver the 3G technology and GoTa services that will make the second phase of the summit another great success."

In June 2004, ZTE signed an agreement to build Africa´s most advanced 3G mobile network for Tunisia´s PTT CERT.  Within three months, the Corporation announced that it had made the first ever 3G call in Tunisia.  The UMTS network covers Tunisia´s two most important cities, Sousse and Tunis.

"ZTE is committed to further promoting the African telecoms industry and aims to bring the most advanced 3G technology to this showpiece event," said Mr. Huang Yuliang, Chief Representative of ZTE Corporation in Tunisia. "Our UMTS, CDMA 2000 1X/EVDO/GOTA and ADSL equipments system will enable more than 15,000 representatives from over 190 countries to experience our diverse 3G based services during the Summit.´

"WSIS 2005 is one of the most important telecoms events of the year and we are very proud to be partnering this event.  Our strong R&D capability, backed by our quality people worldwide, has given us the experience few of our competitors can match in 3G and GoTa trunking technology development and delivery,´ added Mr. Yin Yimin, President of ZTE Corporation.

To date, ZTE is the only Chinese vendor with a complete package of independently developed base stations and switching systems with self-owned brands in the CDMA field. By the end of 2004, ZTE had deployed 20 million lines of CDMA in 50 countries around the world.
