ZTE teams-up with China Mobile to develop IMS PC applications

Date:2006-08-30 ZTE Click:182

ZTE Corporation, the fastest growing global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, is to partner with China Mobile, the country´s largest mobile telecom operator, to develop desktop IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) applications.

IMS is widely accepted as the key technology for network evolution and for the convergence of fixed and mobile networks. The key driver for IMS is a new breed of multimedia applications that will compensate for the expected tumbling price of voice.

The PC client software that is to be jointly developed will give end-users access to features such as videoconferencing, white board, instant messaging and provisioning IP phones.

"China Mobile and the rest of the operator community are investing unprecedented sums of money in IMS networks and there is a great deal riding on the success of the promised applications," said Mr Kan Yulun, GM of ZTE value-added product lines. "This agreement is hugely important as this client software will be the window through which the end-user views a revolutionary set of new applications."

"Voice has traditionally formed the backbone of the global telecoms industry but the coming of IMS is heralding a seismic shift away from the traditional model," added Mr Kan. "China Mobile will be leading the way with the introduction of exciting new services in a compelling format that will change the way people communicate."

As part of the agreement ZTE will be the sole provider of IMS PC software to China Mobile. The partnership is further evidence of the strength and flexibility of ZTE´s Anyservice solution which includes a complete series of products covering every type of air interface and network including PSTN, GSM, CDMA, 3G and NGN, as well as incorporating product sets such as the IN series, messaging series and data series.

ZTE´s Anyservice products have been deployed by 60 operators in over 50 countries around the world.
