8 December 2016, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that its NR8000 Microware solution has successfully passed the Proof of Concept (PoC) test with the software defined networking (SDN) used in the wireless backhaul field. The test was organised by the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), and participated in by multiple vendors.

The ONF is a non-profit organisation committed to promoting SDN standardisation and application, and had previously organised two rounds of PoC SDN tests in 2015. The third round of tests, which were carried out in New Jersey in October 2016, mainly focused on the management plane Common Information Model, with all air interface attribute configurations included. ZTE were invited by the sponsors to participate in the third round of tests, and developed the spectrum management application.

In the test, ZTE used new 5G-oriented platform devices, NR8000 series of products. With sufficient preparations in terms of solution design, research and development and verification, ZTE stood out with zero errors during the pre-test stage. From the pre-test, formal test, to final remote demonstration, the company deeply impressed the operators and other vendors, who highly commended ZTE’s performance.

In this round of tests, ZTE not only demonstrated its technical strength in microwave products and its ability to advance industrial development, but also delivered its positive attitude towards participation in formulating and improving the related standards. In the future, ZTE will continue its investment in the wireless backhaul field, devote itself to SDN development and maturation, and explore SDN business opportunities together with its customers.
