17 November 2016, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that its SPTN (software-defined packet transmission network) solution team has worked with OPEN-O to help authenticate and guarantee the smooth release of its latest project distribution, the 1.0 version named as ‘Sun’.

In the OPEN-O solution, ZTE exclusively provides complete SPTN S-Controller and D-Controller solutions and implements management of cross-vendor networks. As the first open source reference platform in the industry to realize a software defined networking/ network function virtualisation (SDN/NFV) end-to-end service automatic orchestration, the new OPEN-O release is oriented to family and enterprise virtual customer premise equipment (vCPE). It can implement end-to-end service cooperation and comprehensive resource scheduling between a traditional network and a new SDN/NFV network, helping operators to realise agile services and accelerate the launch of new services.

ZTE SPTN implements cloud network synergy in OPEN-O architecture. In a family scenario, with an SPTN level 3 virtual private network (L3VPN) solution, ZTE exclusively verifies the interconnection between the telecom integration cloud (TIC) core and TIC edge data centre interconnection (DCI); realises cloud interconnection and lays a solid foundation for evolution towards the cloud networking era. With rich features, SPTN traffic engineering can not only reserve the bandwidth, measure the network connection delay and packet loss ratio, but also conduct various routing strategies. With a mature SDN architecture, ZTE SPTN can easily integrate with an OPEN-O system, simplifying network maintenance through its operations administration and maintenance (OAM) capabilities. The mature SPTN L3VPN solution is deployed into large-scale applications in provincial backbone and metro area networks and has accumulated the level of maintenance experience to enable it to act as a reference for DCI.

In the enterprise scenario, SPTN L2VPN is used to complete enterprise user access commissioning to realise cloud access. SPTN can meet the deployment needs of network-on-demand. The enterprise network access, based on SPTN, realises the underlay network-on-demand solution compared with the overlay network-on-demand. This has great advantages in end-to-end service quality guarantees, OAM and management.

ZTE has continuously made industry-leading achievements in SPTN standards, research and trial commercial applications since it released its SPTN solution in 2014. From 2015 to the beginning of 2016, ZTE participated in SPTN multi-vendor interconnection tests held by the China Mobile Research Institute and was proved to be the only vendor who could provide S-Controller and D-Controller interconnection concurrently. Multi-vendor interconnection testing greatly improves the product chain and technology maturity. At the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) conference in June 2016, ZTE successfully demonstrated its SPTN service configuration, protection switching, dynamic rerouting, and cluster of the Openflow forwarding plane. With its technical and commercial advantages in the SPTN field, ZTE is well positioned to continuously promote the development of SPTN technology and industry chain in the SPTN era.

OPEN-O aims to provide orchestration at the top layer in SDN/NFV-oriented telecom network reconfiguration. The founding members of the platform are seven Platinum members including China Mobile, ZTE, Intel, Gigaspace, Ericsson, as well as five additional members including Canonical, Red Hat, and CloudBase.
