2 Solutions for CDMA Wireless  Network Coverage

The wide/ultra-far coverage and indoor coverage of the CDMA network can be realized and the coverage quality of the existing CDMA network can be optimized through ZTE´s wireless network solutions. A complete self-developed product series such as the base transceiver station (BTS), remote radio frequency (RF) unit, repeater and indoor distribution system are used in ZTE´s solutions to meet the need of flexible networking, thus enabling the seamless coverage of the CDMA network. As one of the market leaders in CDMA, ZTE has accumulated much experience in network construction and put forward practical overall solutions for special areas such as the wide/ultra-far coverage solution and the indoor coverage solution.

2.1 Wide/Ultra-Far Coverage Solution

In coastal areas, people are in urgent need of convenient, quick and high-quality communication services. As the subscribers are scattered and small in number, an ordinary macro BTS, if used in these areas, will not make full use of its large capacity. It has strict requirements for machine room conditions, steel towers and other supporting facilities, and also has high power consumption and other limitations of application. Furthermore, due to the feed cable loss, tower-top amplifiers need to be furnished for reverse coverage, thus increasing the equipment cost.

To solve these problems, ZTE has developed an outdoor micro BTS (40W) system for ultra-far coverage. While satisfying the capacity demand, the system features small volume, low power consumption, and outdoor and flexible installation. If the antenna is mounted high enough, it has a radius coverage of up to 100 km. This product also features a high cost/performance ratio, short construction period, low construction cost and flexible configuration as required.

ZTE´s  ultra-far  coverage   product   series have an 80-km radius coverage, so it can effectively solve the wide area coverage problem. At service hotspots and small bazaars in the covered area, ZTE´s micro BTS products can be used as a supplement to satisfy the capacity requirement.

Also in areas along highways, ZTE´s ultra-far coverage micro BTS and RF BTS products, while compared with ordinary macro BTS products, are better able  to meet the traffic demand and have much higher cost-performance ratio.

To sum up, ZTE´s wide coverage solution for CDMA network has the following features:

  • Supports the CDMA2000 1x packet data service and CDMA2000 1x EV/DO services.
  • Fully guarantees the network QoS. Suitable for different radio broadcast environments and complex topographical conditions.
  • Low construction cost.
  • Flexible configuration.

2.2 Indoor Coverage Solution

With rapid urban development, there are more and more high buildings. If only the ordinary macro BTSs are used for networking in a CDMA network, there may be problems with the coverage of some hotspot areas, such as blind signal areas of high buildings, weak signal areas inside dense buildings and blind signal areas underground. ZTE has worked out solutions for different conditions:

 (1)Coverage for high commercial buildings

Normally, an ordinary macro BTS can be used for a good coverage of 1 to 12 floors above ground, but areas above the 12th floor or underground cannot be effectively covered due to signal interference and pilot frequency contamination. ZTE solves the problem with the micro BTS + distributed indoor coverage system. The micro BTSs are installed in meeting rooms or large offices and the distributed indoor coverage system is deployed inside the building, and the full coverage of the building including underground areas can be achieved.

(2)Coverage for blind spots in dense buildings

After network planning, ZTE´s ZXICS C800 RUA or low power repeaters can be installed. One RUA can connect 1-3 antennas via a power distributor. Consequently the outdoor signal can be received through the antenna, solving the blind spot problem.

 (3)Coverage for underground stations

If the indoor coverage is not implemented, the signals from the macro BTS on the ground may not be able to reach underground stations.

Installing ZTE´s micro BTSs or remote RF BTSs in underground stations can well solve the problem.

ZTE´s indoor coverage solution for CDMA network has the following advantages:

  • Supports the CDMA2000 1x packet data service. The most significant advantage of the indoor coverage system based on CDMA2000 1x technology is that the system can provide a relatively large capacity for the traffic requirements in hot spot areas and reduce the interference on the adjacent base stations. By means of good network planning, RF signals of “indoor coverage” system will be pooled within buildings, which avoids a large handover area with surrounding base stations.
  • Effectively controls the construction cost: ZTE´s  solution  uses  self-developed  product series such as micro base station (BS), remote RF unit, repeater and indoor distribution system, which greatly contributes to the flexible networking and network optimization in different situations and makes the operation and maintenance easy.
  • Integrate the network management function into the micro BS system to implement the comprehensive and centralized remote monitoring of covered areas, thus greatly cutting down the maintenance cost.

3 Solution for Integrated Services of CDMA Network

Being committed to the research and development of CDMA products, ZTE has launched relevant services on its CDMA product platform, such as the mobile data service, wireless IN service, short message service, wireless positioning service, supplementary services and some special services that are not yet developed by other CDMA equipment vendors. ZTE´s solution for integrated services of CDMA network can help operators enhance competitive edge and make more benefits.

 (1)WLAN+CDMA2000 1x

The CDMA2000 1x network can solve the small coverage problem of wireless LAN (WLAN) and WLAN can solve the problem of low data transmission rate of CDMA2000 1x. As a result, the complementary advantages of wireless cellular network and WLAN are demonstrated.
