Abstact: The development of fiber-optic communication technology from fundamental breakthroughs to integrated innovation is reviewed. Key technological advances spanning from optical-layer fundamentals to multi-domain networking are analyzed, and future development trends are projected. Opportunities and challenges facing China are also identified. In response to emerging requirements such as artificial intelligence and 6G, it is recommended that the industry continue collaborative efforts to advance basic breakthroughs and integrated innovation in key fiber-optic communication technologies, thereby supporting the high-quality development of information infrastructure.
