It is widely accepted by majority of operators that operation philosophy should be evolved from network-oriented to service and customer-oriented. In order to achieve the evolution, operators are inclined to choose SQM, SLA and BI in network construction, which, to some extent, facilitate service correlation and customer insight for them. But can these traditional IT supporting systems really suffice operators effectively?
Actually, data source determines the data analysis effect. In traditional SQM, SLA and BI systems, alarm/ performance data from EMS and CDR files are often used as analysis basis. However, both of them may have certain flaws: the alarm /performance data collected from EMSs, which are often provided by the equipment manufacturers themselves, may not be able to guarantee its objectivity for analysis; the CDR data, on the other hand, cannot reflect the real-time state. Therefore, neither of them can perfectly address the new requirements for subscriber-specific operation and it is necessary to introduce new type of data source as the basis of analysis.
Network signaling data runs throughfrom the client to the equipment, covering the full service process, including connection controlling and service content delivering, which makes it the perfect candidate for addressing these relevant requirements.
ZSmartSignalBI (Signaling-based Business Insight) solution collects network signaling data and obtains user data from other third party systems. After correlating and analyzing the above mentioned data, it will generate the analysis results for network quality, service quality, service volume and user consumption behavior which can be used for more applications, such as customer experience (CEMS), user behavior analysis (UBAS), service quality (SQM), marketing, etc.
Wide Data Collection
ZSmart SignalBI supports collecting signaling messages from all 2G/3G networks. All the green-marked points in the following figure are the touch-points for ZSmart probe to catch the live signaling data.

Big Data Process Capability
ZSmartSignalBI is capable of processing mass data in real time, supporting signaling statistics and analysis for network with 10 million activated users.
ZSmart SignalBI provides multi-dimension analysis functions, including
Signaling data enables macroscopic entire network quality analysis and microcosmic equipment quality analysis, such as quality analysis of links, equipment, cells and specifically chosen regions on different indices, including traffic, response rate, call drop rate, congestion rate, time delay, etc.
It can rank network quality based on signaling analysis for different cells, EMS and hotspots, guiding network optimization through simulative road show, signaling time delay analysis and end-to-end call loss analysis.
It can analyze service quality in four dimensions: coverage, connection, maintenance and integrality.
It can collect signaling of each EMS interface when user is using specific service, and such data can be used for user behavior analysis so as to figure out user's habit, preference and exceptional behavior which can be utilized to conduct service improvement and enhance customer viscosity.
Volume analysis can be performed based on multiple targets, including APN, LAC, Terminal, IP/Port, Roaming, URL, user group, specific user, etc.
For example: Gn interface collects GTP-U data, and it analyzes data volume distribution according to protocol type (HTTP, MMS and FTP). The analysis of Gov-Commercial customer group enables operators to understand service volume composition of such users.
Signaling collection and analysis can indicate network quality and volume trend in real time so that operators are able to monitor network quality, grasp service operation situation, understand user behavior and recognize terminal types; it supports volume control, network optimization and refined marketing.
Network signaling is real time and does not rely on manufacturer, which ensures that network quality management is real-time and accurate. Therefore, operators can grasp precise network operation situation in real time, detect and resolve problems promptly and optimize network appropriately.
Network signaling is of user-level and exists through full service process, reflecting end-to-end service quality for specific users. Operators can dig out problems before customers are aware of them, improving quality of specific service, for specific customers in specific regions. For the complaint from users, it can trace fault process and rapidly locate equipment with fault so as to enhance customer satisfaction.
It can recognize consumption behaviors in user-level, such as service usage, terminal brand, model and location, assisting in precise marketing. Operators can be conscious of user behavior changes as soon as they emerge so that they can recommend individualized service or bundle to users, promoting new services, preventing customer churn and increasing operation revenue.
