ZTE Promotes Standardization Process of 5G M-OTN

March 1, 2018, Shenzhen, China - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, with China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom, submitted dozens of proposals on 5G transport at the ITU-T SG15 plenary session, promoting the standardization process of the M-OTN (Mobile-optimized OTN).

There are three key achievements at the ITU-T SG15 plenary session.

First, the 5G transport technology report of GSTR-TN5G --Transport Network Support of IMT-2020/5G, was completed. The report lays solid foundation for research on 5G transport technologies and marks the focus shifting of the ITU-T SG15 from 5G transport requirement discussion to 5G transport solution discussion.

Second, G.sup.5gotn project -- Application of OTN to 5G Transport, was initiated. The project confirms the OTN technology as a 5G transport solution to meet GSTR-TN5G requirements of fronthaul, midhaul and backhaul, and clarifies the development direction of the OTN technology in the 5G transport standardization. The initiation meant that the ITU-T SG15 approved the application of the OTN technology in 5G transport solution. In the meantime, the OTN technology became the first approved end-to-end 5G transport technology.

Third, the standard of G.ctn5g -- Characteristics of Transport Networks to Support IMT-2020/5G, was approved. The standard mainly confirms the requirements and features of 5G transport solutions. The M-OTN solution is an important part of the standard.

As a core member of the ITU-T, ZTE has been actively promoting the research and standardization of the M-OTN solution. The company has submitted several proposals at the ITU-T SG15 plenary session and creatively proposed the technical solution of cell-based OTN division, significantly contributing to the development and standardization of M-OTN.

Furthermore, ZTE actively participated in the 5G OTN fronthaul transport test organized by the Beijing Research Institute of China Telecom in mid- February. The M-721 board customer side can simultaneously access three or six mainstream 25G eCPRI 5G fronthaul signals, and multiple low-rate CPRI 4G fronthaul signals or other service signals, such as GE and 10GE. In addition, the line side supports 100Gb/s or 200Gb/s bandwidth. The equipment uses the latest M-OTN solution to optimize service mapping path and FEC. Overall, the M-721 showcases excellent performances such as end-to-end one microsecond (us) transport latency and nanosecond (ns) level latency jitter.
