ZTE IP+Optical vPIPE: Leading Transmission in 5G Era

Challenges for Transport Network in 5G Era

When 5G era is coming, higher and tougher requirements for transport network has been raised to fulfill service demands in ultra-low latency, super-large bandwidth, and massive connectivity. In the three typical 5G scenarios (uRLLC, eMBB and mMTC), requirements for network in latency and bandwidth are different so that a single physical network can hardly satisfy all of these demands. Network slicing creates multiple independent virtual networks to meet different service requirements, in the meantime causing new problems to transport network:

● Low network resource utilization ratio with physical slicing. Transport pipes in physical sliced network are static. Resource is allocated as per peak traffic value which results in low network resource utilization ratio of 20%~30% and unnecessary waste.

● Increasing OAM complexity. Hardware and software configuration is needed each time when creating a sliced network. Besides, KPI for each sliced network is different which makes OAM even more complex.

ZTE IP+Optical vPIPE Solution Highlights

● Resource utilization increased by 40%~60% with CAPEX significantly reduced. Innovative IP+Optical resource pooling and sharing proposed by ZTE aims at dynamically adjusting network resource and fulfilling real-time traffic & service demands so as to improve network resource utilization and saving CAPEX

● Simplified OAM with OPEX saved by 40%~50%. Decoupled logical connectivity and physical resource makes it possible to achieve easy OAM: fast service provisioning with simplified IP configuration; fault isolation with no impact on connectivity and service.
