Neat Cell, Inter-Cell Interference Cancellation Solution

  • While LTE sites are deployed denser and Ultra Dense Network (UDN) is coming, ZTE Neat Cell Solution can reduce inter-cell interference, reduce redundant CRS transmission, improve SINR and 256QAM availability, therefore increase cell and user throughput, provide better user experiences.
  • User experience improvement imposes higher requirements on network channel quality, therefore high order modulation (256QAM/64QAM) are required. But with LTE sites getting denser, serious inter-cell interference arises which restrains 256QAM/64QAM availability. In dense urban area, cell throughput deteriorates by up to 50% due to inter-cell interference.

    Existing interference cancellation techniques concentrate on cell-edge coordination, but are rarely effective for Cell Reference Signal (CRS) interference reduction. In fact, CRS interference is a prominent factor of LTE inter-cell interference, affecting SINR, user data rate and cell throughput. While Ultra Dense Network (UDN) is coming, CRS interference cancellation is vital to improve overall network performance and user experience.

     


    Key Technologies


       

      

    Redundant CRS puncturing


    Load gaps (>30%) exist frequently between neighboring cells; even within the same cell, loads at different time are different. Hence, CRS becomes the main interference source when there is no user scheduled in neighboring cells. In such case, the Redundant CRS Puncturing effectively reduces the redundant CRS transmission and alleviates interference; the high order modulation availability can be improved by up to 300%, user DL data rate can be increased by up to 50% and cell average DL throughput can be improved by up to 10%. 


      

    Throughput Shaping


    Throughput shaping algorithm takes different services characteristics into account. On the premise of fulfilling service QoS requirements, throughput shaping maximizes the scheduling gap among neighboring cells in both time and frequency domains by setting appropriate shaping period, therefore alleviate inter-cell interference. With this feature, 256QAM availability can be improved by up to 10%,  user downlink data rate can be enhanced by up to 20% and cell average downlink throughput can be lifted by up to 3%. 


     
     

      

    Network Assistant CRS-IC withoug ABS


    eICIC and feICIC alleviates interference of PDSCH and PDCCH by Almost Blank Sub-frames (ABS), but ABS reduces resource utilization efficiency, affects cell throughput. Deploying network assistant CRS-IC without ABS, eNodeB does not need to configure ABS, UEs can cancel CRS interference by using its own SIC receiver with eNodeB assistant information, air interface resources are then fully utilized. 256QAM availability can be improved by up to 30%,  user DL data rate enhanced by up to 18% and cell average DL throughput lifted by up to 4%. 


      

    CRS Adaptive Power Control


    Besides Redundant CRS Puncturing, ZTE Neat Cell Solution also provides more flexible CRS adaptive power control feature for load gaps scenarios. On the premise of basic coverage assurance, eNodeB alleviates interference on hot spot cells by reducing the power of low load or low priority cells (including the transmitting power of reference signals and data), therefore improves high order modulation availability by up to 20%, user downlink data rate by up to 10% and cell average downlink throughput by up to 2%.

    ZTE Neat Cell solution can further reduce the inter-cell interference. By the means of puncturing the redundant CRS transmission, it can reduce the interferences on neighboring cells thus improving SINR and 256QAM availability, enhancing the neighboring cell’s throughput and users’ data rate.The inter-cell interference can be reduced by up to 80% as well as the cell throughput can be increased by up to 20% after the ZTE Neat Cell is enabled.

    ZTE Neat Cell solution proposes a brand new idea to further reduce the interferences, improve whole network performance and users’ experiences, which aims to provide operators with more competitive users’ experience and enhances subscribers’ loyalty and their reputation. Now ZTE has completed the preliminary verifications based on China Mobile’s live network, and the test results show that the DL user data peak rate can be enhanced by 15% maximally.  ZTE will proceed to conduct the following pre-commercial verifications s with high-end operators.
