Comprehensive Bearer Network Training Helps DiGi With Traffic Operation

DiGi, which is affiliated to the multinational operator Telenor, is a first-class telecommunications service provider in Malaysia. In recent years, with great development of 3G services in Southeast Asia and the advent of the full-service operation era, with the help of Telenor’s technical strength and global operating experience, DiGi has been striving to become the largest mobile operator in Malaysia. DiGi continues to enrich comprehensive information service products. New services, such as videoconferencing, HD IPTV, and P2P, directly promote rapid growth of IP service traffic for DiGi.
In 2011, DiGi cooperated with ZTE in deploying its IP backbone network and wireless backhaul network to carry growing IP services. To improve network operation efficiency and further reduce the OPEX, ZTE University customized a comprehensive bearer network training project for DiGi.
ZTE University, with lots of experience in technical training services, has trained operation and maintenance experts at all levels. In this project, trainees include senior technical engineers and common operation and maintenance engineers, and cover IP, PTN, and other network technology products. The ultimate goal of this training project is to develop personnel of refined management and operation, and to help DiGi to build user-friendly bearer networks.
To achieve the expected results, the training solution developers make thorough communication with DiGi to learn the positions and responsibilities in detail. With lots of experience in Competence Transfer Services (CTS) training for telecommunications operators, by using the network lifecycle theory for career development, and through sophisticated modular technologies, ZTE University assists DiGi’s training managers in course module selection and combination to develop the most appropriate training courses. The training courses cover high-end courses for senior technical engineers and management staff, basic and advanced courses for maintenance personnel at different levels, and on-site training. This training project focuses on major technologies such as intelligence and stability of IP networks, and makes preparations for technical upgrade and operation mode transition.
For maintenance and technical management positions at different levels, the network lifecycle theory is used to predict position and service changes, and schedule training courses appropriately. In this case, the training courses become more suitable for specific positions. In addition, appropriate training schedules greatly improve trainees’ learning interest and efficiency, and reduce the overall training expenses. A training plan that matches network development can reduce efficiency loss during service transition and training periods, and improve the overall human resource efficiency.
High-end courses of this project cover the latest hotspot technologies and the development trend of bearer networks, including LTE bearer support, technical analysis and network planning of ZTE’s IP/PTN bearer network products, network construction plans, and bearer network operation, maintenance, and management. Multiple high-end courses focus on specific problems, such as network interconnection, traffic monitoring, usage of network management and analysis tools, service control, and user management.
ZTE University develops theoretical courses and practice materials for DiGi’s all positions during training implementation. Based on the knowledge background, positions, and learning preferences of trainees, ZTE University develops training plans at different levels for all products. Especially in practice operations, ZTE customizes practice plans for different positions in accordance with work scenarios. For example, equipment maintenance and management personnel should focus on routine maintenance and troubleshooting, and network planning personnel and engineering designers should focus on technology verification and network quality monitoring operations. All practice plans are strictly based on work scenarios to ensure validity and practicality. For laboratory environment, the work scenarios of DiGi’s positions are simulated to improve knowledge practicality and arouse the learning enthusiasm of DiGi’s employees.
After training, the capabilities of DiGi’s bearer network engineers are improved significantly. The trainees become major employees in their positions, and play a key role in improving bearer network KPIs and transition to intelligent management and elaborate traffic operation. The network operation capabilities are improved, and the OPEX is reduced. In addition, by learning network planning courses, DiGi’s engineers have acquired prospective understanding of network planning, and have accumulated knowledge and skills for the upcoming 4G network.
Guided by customer demands and centered on customer benefits, this training project helps DiGi to train employees at all levels oriented to elaborate intelligent operation and maintenance management and operation, and lays a solid foundation for DiGi’s IP service development in the future.
