The 4th International Telecommunications, Information Technology, Broadcasting and Office Automation Trade Fair of Algeria - alger telecomp 2004 - enjoys powerful growth. Scheduled for 10 to 13 October 2004 at the Palais des Expositions in Algiers, 61 exhibitors from 17 countries, among them all of the Algerian and international market leaders, participate at this leading CIT event in Algeria.

The Algerian market for communication and IT services and technology is more and more characterised by "the opening of the sector towards competition and the strong encouragement of all walks of life to use CIT at every single level". According to Minister Amar Tou's statement of June 22nd, an enormous budget of 36 bn. DA has been set aside to further improve services and to realise new major projects. Until 2010, teledensity should reach 60%, and 30 - 40% of the Algerian population should have Internet access.

Backed by this highly encouraging development, in terms of space, alger telecomp has grown by more than 80% compared with last year's edition. This year, alger telecomp is again officially sponsored by Algérie Télécom. Djezzy one more time is the supreme sponsor, ZTE the major sponsor. Senior sponsors are KpointCom/Samsung and AlgeriKa.

alger telecomp 2004 takes place at the same time as alger energy, also with all majors participating, an additional plus for all IT and telecom equipment manufacturers and service providers who also work closely with the big shots in the Algerian energy industry such as Sonatrach, Sonelgaz, Naftal and many others.

alger telecomp 2004 becomes ever more of interest for major telecom and IT players. On the service providers level, alger telecomp 2004 sees the participation of Algérie Télécom and their mobile arm Mobilis, Djezzy/Orascom Telecom Algeria and some Djezzy distributors, as well as Wataniya Telecom.

As ISP's Eepad will be there, who will also take care of the "Espace Cyber ADSL". Also Webcom participates. What concerns office automation, CBS/Xerox have signed in as have Canon-Sabi Systems and ALBM CFAO Technologies.

On the telecom equipment side Aacom, ABM, Afritek, AlgérieKa, APC, Benning, Catel, Dehn, Elexo, Ericsson, Eutelsat, Huawei, Keymile, KPoint Com, Microwave Data Systems, Motorola, Nokia, Nortel Networks, Rohde & Schwarz, Samsung, Siemens, Sitel, Groupe SNEF, Sodielec,
STEP, TTE and ZTE have registered.

Top official support has again been pledged to alger telecomp by the Algerian ministry of posts and information and communication technology.

Algeria today is totally committed to become a modern and open-minded society. The economic opening, the liberalisation and the privatisation of many sectors, have created GDP growth rates of 3.2%, 4.2% and 5.2% in the years 2001-2003. Algeria's foreign exchange reserves reached an all-time high in the year 2004 (around US$ 35 billion), after the country has succeeded to export petrochemicals worth around US $ 20 billion annually during the last years. Especially the investment climate has drastically improved.

One of the major growth markets besides the energy industry and one of the political priorities for the development of Algeria are the telecommunications and information technology sectors, which include the realisation of very ambitious projects for the improvement of the infrastructure in the whole country
